The Vizsla Club of Metro Atlanta held its annual fall trial this year the weekend after Thanksgiving. Kit and Elle ran in the Open Puppy stake and both surprised us with placements. Kit took 2nd and Elle took 3rd, not bad for being just over 6 months old.
Hawk is starting to come into his own and grabbed a third place in the Open Restricted Shooting Dog (OLGD), which was a horseback stake. We have high hopes for him in the coming months.

Introducing Pine Straw Covergirl and Pine Straw Pathfinder
We would like to introduce the two pups that we have kept out of the Katie X Grumpy litter. Above you see Pine Straw Covergirl (Elle) as she points along an edge and below her is Pine Straw Pathfinder (Kit) as he points in the thick stuff.
Hawk places in hour horseback stake.
On September 29, 2013 Hawk was awarded 4th place in the hour long AKC horseback stake at the GSP club of Eastern Iowa. This was Hawk's very first hour long horseback stake and he had 5 finds in his hour. Not too bad for his first go at it, we'll take a 4th place ribbon!

Charlie gets Runner Up at the New England Grouse Championship!
On 09/27/2013 Charlie (CH/RUCH Chip's Charlie Brown) was named Runner Up at the New England Grouse Championship. Thirty-eight dogs ran in the trial and Charlie earned his new title with one grouse find. Charlie is having a good year!
Maggie takes first in horseback derby.
Just got a call from Jamie Fountain of Oconee Kennels, who has Maggie and Hawk for a month of trials out in Iowa and Nebraska. Maggie took First Place in the Open Derby today (9/14/2013) against 20 other dogs at the GSP Club of Eastern Iowa trial. This was a dual sanctioned (American Field/AKC) horseback trial. Maggie is now qualified for open Championships with the American Field and has all of her juvenile points toward her AKC FC.

Hawk and Smudge join Team HiFive
Hawk and Smudge have gone to spend the spring trial season on the string of HiFive Kennels (Bruce and Jennie Minard). We wanted to give them a chance at some more NBHA trials and even a few more horseback stakes than we have time to get them to. So we have put them with Bruce to see what they will do for him. Hopefully they will continue their winning ways. Smudge had two placements and Hawk three this past fall. They each have more than a handful of placements now (see last year's post of their field trial records). In the photo you can see Hawk backing Smudge.
Katie has been bred
On March 13th and then the following days, Katie was bred by Grumpy (4xRUCH Uppercove Desert Devil, now High Desert Devil). We have our fingers crossed that the breeding took. Grumpy's recent win of the Armstrong Umble Endurance Classic further validates our choice of him for the sire of Katie's litter. Way to go Grumpy.

Katie in Heat and at Shady Hills Kennel to be bred to Grumpy
Katie (RUCH Pine Straw Katydid) is in heat and up in New York with the Formans to be bred to Grumpy (4xRUCH Uppercove Desert Devil). We're keeping our fingers crossed that the breeding takes and we get pups from this matching of a son of Shady Hills Billy to a daughter of Chip's Uncle Buzzie. Stay tuned...
MAGGIE TEARS IT UP IN FIRST HORSEBACK TRIAL!
Pine Straw Magpie had a great start to her horseback trials. On March 1-2 Maggie took 1st in the Open Puppy and 3rd in the Open Derby at the Old Dominion Vizsla Club's Spring Field Trial. I haven't had much time to run her in trials lately due to a busy work schedule, so we asked Jamie Fountain of Oconee Kennels to run her in some horseback trials during the month of March.

Maggie takes her first blue ribbon!
Pine Straw Magpie took first place in the GSP Club of Middle Tennessee's Amateur Puppy stake on December 29th, 2012. Maggie had an amazing race and very pretty find during her brace. She garnered lots of compliments. Maggie made some serious moves, rimmed the field edges and tore through the likely cover. Maggie put in the performance of a much older dog. While we have been impressed with her thus far, Maggie's performance in this trial just blew us away.
Katie takes top spot in horseback stake, Hawk gets a 2nd in his.
The Central Georgia Pointing Dog Club held an American Field/AKC dual sanctioned horseback field trial December 21-23, 2012. Pine Straw Blackhawk started it off by taking second place in the 15 dog Open Shooting Dog stake. The following day his mom, RUCH Pine Straw Katydid, grabbed 1st place in the Open Restricted Shooting Dog stake with an impressive 4 finds. This is Katie's second placement this fall; Hawk's was his 3rd placement of the season.
Pine Straw Blackhawk takes 2nd in horseback trial.
On December 19, 2012 Pine Straw Blackhawk took 2nd place in the Open Shooting Dog stake of the Mid-Florida Brittany Club's American Field/AKC dual sanctioned horseback trial. Hawk had two good finds in his bid and put in an impressive race. Thanks to Jamie Fountain who handled Hawk in the horseback trial.
